Exciting Destinations to Explore

Getting out on the water this summer is a great way to explore new lakes, streams, rivers and oceans.  When deciding on your destination there are several factors to take into consideration while planning your ultimate getaway: Consider who you will be traveling with and the time frame you are going to be gone, what type of wildlife are in the area and if they are in mating season or hunting season, cost of lodging (if you are not staying on your vessel) and cost to get you and your boat to the ultimate destination.  There are several destinations just a state away that could allow you to unleash your inner explorer this summer.  Check out some one of these exciting lakes, rivers, and ocean destinations around the United States.

Finger Lakes, NY
Finger lakesThe Finger Lakes offer boating enthusiasts breathe taking scenery while cruising around including waterfalls, rocky canyons, state parks, wineries, and beautiful seascape to name a few.  

Lake Erie Islands, OH
Known as the “Walleye Capital of the World” this is a must see spot for fishermen this summer.  Lake Erie is also well known for yellow perch and small bass to name a few.  This summer destination is a great place to go fishing for the day and large enough to fish for the week.

Lake Sinclair, GA
Considered one of Georgia’s best kept secrets it is located in the central part of the state, surrounded by rolling hills and forests.  Sure to take your breath away.   

Lake Okeechobee, FL
Home to the Herbert Hoover Dike, this 1,300 mile trail is one of eight across the United States.  The trial stretches from the Florida Panhandle to the Big Cypress National Preserve.  The trail offers breathe taking views as well as ample amount of wildlife.  The summer months are home to alligator hatching, baby raccoons, foxes, armadillos, and bobcats leaving their mothers and bear breeding season starts in July.

Lake of the Ozarks, MO
This 95 mile long stretch has everything to offer from party cove, to restaurants and bars with ample dock space, quiet coves to anchor down or tie up to a new friend, family activities and a large outlet mall to take a boating break.  

Russian River, CA
Russian River offers several reasons to get out and see and do this summer.  Russian River activities include: horseback riding on the beach, canoe trips, California wine tours and tasting and is home to Fort Ross State Park which hosts spectacular views of the rugged offshore rocks and steep sea cliffs of the Pacific Ocean for the whole family to enjoy.

Check out this local hotspot that flows in from the Great Lakes system then heads northeast dividing Canada and the United States.  The River offers an ample amount of freshwater fishing, boating, swimming, sight-seeing, and summer activities for all ages.  Be sure to swing by Boldt Castle on Heart Island as one of the cities must see attractions.

Brunswick County, NC
Looking for a quite place to getaway this summer, look no further than Brunswick County North Carolina.  This quaint beach town is not your normal hustle and bustle sea side town.  It offers a relaxing, change of pace and place for you to get rejuvenated this summer.  

KipsacKitsap Peninsula, Washington
Kitsap Peninsula is surrounded by 300 miles of saltwater shoreline nestled in between the Olympic and Cascade Mountain ranges.  Be sure to give you sea legs a break and check out some of the rich history and cultural the surrounding communities have to offer as well.  

Lake Pend Oreille, ID
Looking for a great sailboat getaway this summer?  Idaho’s largest lake with 111 miles of shoreline and 43 miles long is sure to peak your interests.  Lake Pen Oreille offers a public boat ramp and pump out station for a small fee.  So be sure to put this on your summer sailing getaway list.

Lake Placid, NY
Site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, this lake and the surrounding area has much to offer the explorer in you.  Horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, Olympic Venue sightseeing and whitewater rafting are some of the activities you can jump into this summer, when you would like a break from the boat.
